Ask For Angela User’s Feedback
“I was having a drink in a pub in Brighton on my way home from work when a man approached me asking for a cigarette. He wouldn’t leave me alone and his behaviour made me uncomfortable. I was on my own, and because I lived opposite the pub, I was really conscious that I didn’t want him to see where I lived. I went to the bar and asked for Angela. The staff immediately understood what was happening, no questions, no fuss. They quietly took control of the situation. They arranged for me to leave through a back exit while distracting him, so he never saw me go or knew where I lived. It was handled so smoothly and discreetly that it felt completely natural, not dramatic or embarrassing. When I went back another time, the staff told me they had barred him. It was simple, calm, and done with care and it made a real difference to how safe I felt.”

Venue Owner’s Insight
“We support Ask For Angela because it does more than just offer a discreet way for someone to ask for help, it sets the tone for the whole venue. It sends a very clear message that predatory or intimidating behaviour is not acceptable here. For us, it’s about creating a space where everyone feels safe, and where those who might think about crossing a line understand that they won’t be tolerated. Ask For Angela also reflects our responsibilities under our licensing conditions, it shows we take safeguarding seriously and that we actively put measures in place to protect our customers. It’s the right thing to do, for our staff and our customers”

Pubwatch Testimonial
“RJJ Consultancy run the Pubwatch scheme in Louth, Lincolnshire. Here, they share some feedback following the recent Ask for Angela presentation delivered by Hayley Crawford. The initiative was extremely well received by all attendees, and premises were genuinely enthusiastic about adopting it within their venues. There was a clear appetite to embed the scheme as part of their wider commitment to safeguarding and customer welfare. Hayley Crawford’s delivery was particularly inspiring. Her clarity, passion, and practical insight resonated strongly with the group, and several members commented on how engaging and motivating the session felt. This has created real momentum locally, and I’m confident we can build on this positive response as we continue to support venues in implementing the scheme effectively.”

I was on a third date with a guy I'd met online on a dating app. First two dates were really pleasant, he was charming, he seemed to listen to me, we laughed alot. We just went for drinks. I was excited about him. On our third date, we went somewhere where there was drinks, food and live music. Again we had a great time to begin with, I noticed he drank a lot and as time went on he started behaving quite aggressively - he accused me of looking at other men and things suddenly felt dangerous. He was also touching me and pulling me around. He then said he had ordered us an uber to go back to his place. When I said I didn’t want to, he said it was because I had my eye on someone else, and was probably wanting to go home with a different guy. There was something about him that made it difficult to say no, he wanted me to prove that I wasn’t eyeing someone else up by going home with him. I said OK and said I needed the loo. On my way out of the toilet I saw the Ask for Angela sign and went to the side bit of the bar where my date couldn’t see me. The bar person immediately called for help and put me in a staff only room. I was shaking at this point. They ordered me a taxi and ushered me out around the back safely to the taxi, and waited till I got in and drove off. Luckily this guy didn’t know where I lived and I blocked him immediately. He turned up at my work twice demanding a chat but my colleagues called the police. If I hadn’t seen that poster, I dont know what I would have done. I was a frightened mess, I was shaking, my heart was beating out of my chest. When I got home I called my best friend and sobbed for an hour, I just knew I had escaped a really weird and scary man.

I'm a student at uni and was out on a Friday night with two of my girlfriends.
Two guys offered to buy us drinks and we gladly accepted. But then we couldn’t get rid of them, the drink seemed to entitle them to hanging around us and when we moved away they followed.
One of them said some really gross sexual stuff to me and so we were forced to leave the bar and we went elsewhere. But they followed, they seemed drunk or high or both.
At the bar we asked for Angela and explained that those guys were bothering us.
The lady radioed the bouncers who said something to them and they stayed away. We called an uber taxi and left in it.
The staff were amazing.
It’s shocking and scary that men think you saying yes to a drink means so much more and that the words no and no thank you dont mean anything?
